Lets say you where doing road works, and that you wanted to put some traffic lights in place to control the traffic around the massive hole in the ground. The only problem was that the traffic lights where programmed for a longer strech of road works, so that when the lights turned red for one side, it would be about 30 seconds before they changed for the other side, despite the fact that all of the traffic would have passed within the first 10 seconds. Would you...
- Reprogram the lights to have a shorter change time.
- or
- Leave the lights as they are and employ a guy to stand next to the lights all day and night and wave at the traffic every time the lights change.
Well Cheshire Council have done the second one. If you have a look at the road between Macclesfield and Poynton you will see a guy who waves the traffic through a few moments before the lights change. He is there all day and all night. Crazy!
